Wendover Junior u13 Youths progressed to the next round of the League Cup with an impressive 8-0 win on a glorious Sunday mid-morning at RAF Halton.
The scoreline reflected Wendover’s dominance throughout the match, although the bobbly pitch did make first touches and passing more difficult than usual. Despite the conditions, the team adapted well and played some excellent football.

Ed was in outstanding form, scoring five goals and leading the attack brilliantly. Rory added one, while Aksh and Romi also got on the scoresheet to complete the scoring.

At the other end, Sully had very little to do in goal thanks to another strong defensive display. Billy, Megan, Harley and Harry Stott were solid throughout, restricting the opposition to very few opportunities. With the game won, Sully was even given the chance to play up front for the final 15 minutes in search of a goal of his own, with Rajan donning the gloves and going between the sticks.

The match also provided an opportunity to try players in different positions. Rajan had a spell up front and held up the ball for the likes of Ed and Harry Stacey to run beyond him and try and score. Aksh, Erick, and Harry Stott all spent time in wide areas, while Rory, Ben, Romi and Rajan took on midfield responsibilities.

Our set pieces were good weapons with two corners setting up two goals, Rajan for Rory and Aksh scored directly from one and then creating another. We had been worried who would step up for corners while Hugo is out injured, but this game showed we still had good back up, while Hugo is out. The quality of the deliveries caused constant problems for the Dynamos defence.

Most pleasing of all was the team performance. Every player contributed, the ball was moved well, and the squad continued to grow in confidence and understanding.

Tougher tests will undoubtedly lie ahead, but the team is learning well together and can look forward to the next round of the cup with plenty of optimism.
